Trivia Quiz

If you were a kitchen appliance, what appliance would you be, and why?

Judging from my personality and job profile, I would say that I would be a blender or mixer. The idea is that I get a lot of information on my job post, then I would process the information, which is like blending the ingredients. Eventually, after the information is processed, it would become useful information, which is like the juice you get after blending.

When did you join FunPodium?

I joined FunPodium around 1 year and 5 months ago.

Describe a typical day for you at work?

I usually wake up a little late. I love my morning sleep, and after I wake up I will rush to the office and try to arrive at the last moment, which is around 9:45 or 9:50. Sometimes I reach the office at 10:00, too, haha. After I arrive at the office, I will just sit down at my desk, check my emails, and get my server's stats and alerts. Then, I will go grab a cup of coffee and catch up with my colleagues about the daily schedule. Some days I will have meetings with other teams, or else it will be the stand-up meeting time for my team to share what we have to do on the day. Once the sharing is done, I will break down the objectives of the day, list the priorities, and distribute the work among my team members. Usually, we will start by figuring out the problem, then I will tell my team what solutions I have in mind and they will also share their opinions. For lunch, because I’m not the kind of person to go out and about in the summer, I will order the lunch prepared by our GAs and eat in the office. As lunch break ends, it will then be time for another round of routine work. That’s a typical day for me at work.

How would you describe FunPodium using a sentence?

FunPodium is like a big family, so people are always encouraged to ask questions and speak their opinions.

What makes you excited to come to work every day?

What makes me excited to come to work every day is actually the chance to get new and different kinds of problems. I am excited about getting new challenges because I believe they are opportunities for me to utilize my skills and learn new things.

What skills do you need to be a Database Engineering Manager?

Frankly speaking, I think technical skills account for 50% of what makes you a good database engineering manager. In my opinion, your attitude towards work and learning is more important because you will have to be passionate about the work you do and be open to learning new things in order to become better at the job. On top of this, it’s important for you to be approachable. You have to show people that you are easy to talk to so that people will trust you.

Advice for potential candidates interested in joining FunPodium?

For people who are interested in joining FunPodium, I would first like to say welcome! When I first joined the company, we only had 50 employees. But within two years, the number has grown to 120 employees. I would say that FunPodium is definitely a fast-growing company that uses cutting edge technology. I think what the potential candidates have to keep in mind is that this place is full of challenges and you have to be willing to take up responsibilities. FunPodium is not an easy place, but alongside the challenges that allow you to grow, you also get the chance to meet really skilled people. So, it would be important for the people who are interested to know clearly what they want for their future career.

Any other things that you would like to share?

I have two members on my team. One of them is Kent, and the other is Ryze. They have very different personalities, with Kent being really laid back and Ryze being sensible and shy. But I just want to say that they are truly talented and I appreciate them being part of my team!
